Empire Exclusive: First Still from ‘Loki’

Empire has released the first promotional image from “Loki.”

You can’t keep a good God Of Mischief down, can you? In the opening minutes of Avengers: Infinity War, one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most popular and enduring characters finally got his comeuppance – Asgardian prince Loki (sometimes foe, occasionally friend, largely somewhere in between) being among the first casualties of Thanos’ reign of terror. But while the snapping of Loki’s neck before the credits even rolled seemed to signal the end of Tom Hiddleston’s time in the MCU, fate – or, Kevin Feige – had other plans. Plans that saw an Avengers-era Loki disappear with the Tesseract in an alternate universe in Avengers: Endgame, teeing up a whole new Disney+ series that sends the anti-hero on his wildest adventure yet.

As seen in the upcoming new issue of Empire – featuring a world-exclusive, brand new, career-spanning interview with Hiddleston, including the first word anywhere on Loki – here’s the very first image from the series.

As the trailers have teased, the show finds this version of Loki in the grips of the TVA – the ‘Time Variance Authority’. For one, that means this fetching new jumpsuit bearing the TVA logo. For two, it means Loki with an ominous collar attached to his neck – and since he’s a character who loves to be in control, that won’t be easy for him. If we’ve come to expect anything from Loki through nearly 10 years of Marvel movies, though, it’s that he’s most dangerous when cornered – and always several steps ahead of everyone else.

Tom Hiddleston to star in Apple’s ‘Essex Serpent’

Tom Hiddleston will star opposite Claire Danes in Apple’s drama series The Essex Serpent.

The Hollywood Reporter: The Emmy-nominated actor (The Night Manager) and Marvel Cinematic Universe star will play Will Ransome, a trusted leader in a small English community, in the adaptation of Sarah Perry’s award-winning novel (Apple also released a first photo of Hiddleston in the series, above). It’s the latest TV project for Hiddleston, who will next be seen in Marvel’s Loki on Disney+.

The Essex Serpent, from See-Saw Films (Top of the Lake, The King’s Speech), centers on Cora (Danes), a recently widowed woman who, having been released from an abusive marriage, relocates from Victorian London to the small village of Aldwinter in Essex. There she becomes intrigued by a local superstition that a mythical creature known as the Essex Serpent has returned to the area.

Anna Symon (Mrs. Wilson) is adapting Perry’s book and will serve as lead writer on the project, and Clio Barnard (The Selfish Giant, Dark River) will direct. Both are executive producing alongside Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Patrick Walters, Iain Canning and Emile Sherman. Andrea Cornwell produces.

In addition to his Marvel career, which spans six MCU films and the forthcoming Loki, Hiddleston’s credits include Kong: Skull Island, Muppets Most Wanted and War Horse. He’s repped by WME and by Hamilton Hodell in the U.K.

‘Loki’ Visual Effects Supervisor Says ‘Show Will Defy Expectations’

While speaking with Comic Book Movie, visual effects supervisor Brad Parker talked about Tom Hiddleston’s Loki solo series and had nothing but great things to say about the upcoming project:

“Well, that’s pretty much all I can say, that it is a crazy journey! That’s another project that will defy expectations in a lot of ways. It’s been so much fun. It’s been on my hit list to work on a Marvel project, and Loki is just such a great one. It’s so cool, and there are so many amazing things that are going to happen in every episode. I can’t wait for people to see it. It’s a lot of hard work. We’re working furiously to make this thing as great as possible, and I think people are going to be thrilled when they see it.”
